The NEMOSUIT

Back to Jules Verne collection

The NEMOSUIT is an authentic functional replica of Captain Nemo's diving equipment as seen in Walt Disney's 1954 movie version of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; it was completed in January 2003 by Pat Regan of Hawaii as a companion project for his submersible, the NAUTILUS MINISUB.

The NEMOSUIT features a drysuit and boots that were custom made by the original manufacturers who supplied Disney (AQUALA, and MORSE, of the USA). The Asian pearl diver's helmet was modified to breathe from SCUBA as was Disney's; all the helmet adaptations and the regulator fairing were handmade in metal by Regan. The air supply system is all vintage equipment: the same as Disney used for the movie. Even the knife on Nemo's belt is the authentic!

The NEMOSUIT project took about seven months to complete. At the time of this writing, it is the World's only functional specimen of the diving gear seen in Disney's 20,000 Leagues. Regan hopes "Leaguers" everywhere will enjoy seeing it.
