Welcome

In our lab we use multisensory psychophysics, and neuroimaging (mainly fMRI and recently MEG, EEG and TMS), to investigate how our brain voluntarily controls conscious perception to retrieve the (3D) layout of our environment. The lab is in the Physics Dept of Utrecht University (Helmholtz Inst) and I am an Assoc. Professor.

My current research is supported by NWO through a VernieuwingsImpuls fellowship and Utrecht University through a HighPotential fellowship.

Presently I am member of the Young National Academy of Sciences and president of the Dutch Soc. for Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering.

Go to my Curriculum Vitae, to read about my research at Utrecht, Berkeley and MIT.

Television Interview
Our work appeared as a central topic on national television
in "Klokhuis" (March 28, 2008 and May 13, 2009).
This was a fantastic experience. View movie.

and guess what?.........
I have achieved the status of "cover boy" (for an interview ... Alas, it is just on the U-blad)

Okay, there is an interview in Science (326, p777, Nov 2009) but this was only a few lines.
It was about EYE MEETS I, a project with artist Bradley Pitts. We presented an elliptical mirror bringing observers back to the CYCLOPS experience. In this mirror your left eye sees you right eye, and vice versa, wherever you look, meaning that your own "big brother" eye constantly follows you.........View movie.

Bessensap Film contest: Bessensap is the yearly national meeting between science and press. It is organised by NWO and the Society for Science Journalists. Out of 113 proposals Robert Kerst and I have been invited to present a film titled "Een vliegtuig besturen met je wilskracht” on May 26th 2008. We participated in a contest for the best film and ours was ranked among the best three. View movie.

Go to Projects & jobs for graduate students, post-docs, AIO's and Dutch students.
And check out a few cool demos of our research.
